Laurie Black

Laurie Black is president and CEO of LJ Black Consulting, and president of RS Lawrence Development, as well as past president of the Downtown San Diego Partnership. She has been a part of the political and business landscape in San Diego for more than 30 years, serving as Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Lynn Schenk. She also served as a board member of Civic San Diego, formerly known as Centre City Development Corporation, from 2010 to 2012, and as San Diego Port Commissioner from 2007 to 2009. 

Laurie was a member of the 2010 “Pipeline to Leadership” program, which was recognized by the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations with its Outstanding Member Program Award, and was selected as a San Diego Metropolitan Magazine 2011 Metro Mover and twice as San Diego Magazine’s 50 People to Watch.  She served on the Board of Directors of the San Diego City College Foundation as well as the Community College Advisory Board for SDCC.  Laurie was a member of the Budget, Finance and Nominating Committees of the San Diego Opera as well as a member of the Board of Directors at Congregation Beth Israel. 

She was on the Board of Overseers at UC San Diego for 9 years and was named Caregiver of the Year in 2012 by Moore’s Cancer Center. She has served on the Board of Trustees since 2016, and currently serves on the Donor Relations and Stewardship Committee.

Laurie received her bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in women's studies from San Diego State University.
